The Perfect Messenger: Prophet Nuh (AS)
Have you ever wondered how merciful Allah is to humanity that even after generations of evil and corruption, He still sends warners and messengers to guide us back to the straight path? One of the greatest messengers sent to mankind was Prophet Nuh (AS). At a time when disbelief and sin spread throughout the earth, Allah chose Nuh (AS) to spread the message of Tawheed and warn people of the punishment of the hereafter if they do not mend their ways.
Prophet Nuh (AS) embodied all the qualities of a perfect messenger. He was kind-hearted, patient and compassionate towards his people. For 950 years, he preached the oneness of Allah and called people to worship the Creator alone. Yet he faced nothing but rejection, mockery and hostility. His people refused to believe in the clear signs and warnings. But Nuh (AS) did not give up. He continued preaching day and night, hoping that perhaps some hearts may find guidance. His patience and perseverance in the face of adversity is a lesson for all believers.
Despite the stubbornness of his people, Nuh (AS) never stopped praying for their guidance. He prayed: "O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day. But my call only increases their flight from the Right Path! And every time I have called to them, that You might forgive them, they have only thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. So I have called to them aloud; Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private." [Quran 71:5-9]
Nuh (AS) continued preaching and praying for 950 long years. Finally, Allah revealed to him that no more believers will come out of his people and commanded him to build an ark to save the believers. Nuh (AS) built the ark, as commanded by his Lord, and it sailed through the great flood, carrying the believers to safety. The wrongdoers who rejected the call of Nuh (AS) were drowned.
The story of Nuh (AS) teaches us that we must never lose hope in the mercy of Allah. We must continue preaching the truth with wisdom, patience and compassion even in the face of opposition. Nuh (AS) fulfilled his duty as the messenger of Allah, so we should follow his example and fulfill the purpose of our existence. This is how we can draw nearer to Allah, the All-Merciful.
